AI agents can now handle a large share of routine banking conversations, from balance checks to blocked cards. The technology is ready; the question your compliance team will ask is whether it is safe. Here is what they will want to know, and what good answers look like.
1. Where do the answers come from?
An agent should answer only from your verified knowledge: approved FAQs, product documents and policies, retrieved at the moment of the question (retrieval-augmented generation). If the answer isn’t in the knowledge base, the agent should say so and escalate, not improvise.
2. What can the agent actually do?
Agentic AI goes beyond chat: it can verify a customer with an OTP, block a card in core banking or raise a request. Each action should be explicitly allowed, run through secure APIs with least-privilege permissions, and be logged.
3. When does a human take over?
Define clear handover rules (complaints, vulnerable customers, disputes, low-confidence answers) and make sure the human agent receives the full conversation context, so the customer never has to repeat themselves.
4. Can we audit every conversation?
Compliance teams need complete audit logs: what was asked, what was retrieved, what the agent answered and which actions it took. Logs should be retained according to your regulatory requirements.
5. Where is our data, and who can see it?
- Encryption at rest (for example AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2 or higher, ideally 1.3)
- Role-based access control and MFA for everyone who can configure the agent
- Deployment options that match your policy: managed cloud, your own AWS account, or on-premises
- Data residency in the region you require, such as an EU AWS region for European customers
When models run on Amazon Bedrock, AWS states that customer prompts and completions are not used to train the underlying foundation models, which is an important point for many risk teams.
6. How will we measure success?
Agree the KPIs before launch: containment rate, customer satisfaction, average handling time, escalation rate and answer accuracy on a test set. Review them weekly in the first months.
From practice: we delivered Koronik AI on Amazon Bedrock for a digital bank, handling balance checks, statements and customer queries 24/7 on Messenger and WhatsApp, with live-agent handover and full audit logs.
